How We Estimate a Custom Software Project in 24 Hours
A practical breakdown of what goes into a software estimate — and what doesn't. How we scope, quote, and commit without hand-waving.
Every serious software engagement starts with a quote. And most quotes are wrong.
We quote every inbound project within 24 hours of first contact. Here is the actual work that happens between "we got your message" and "here is your number."
What we read first
Before anyone on our side writes a single line of scope, we read what you sent:
- Problem statement. What is broken or missing today. Not the solution — the pain.
- Users. Who. How many. Internal, external, paying, or both.
- Existing systems. What has to be integrated. What cannot be touched.
- Non-negotiables. Deadlines, regulatory constraints, platforms, languages.
- Your budget expectation. We will ask if you didn't volunteer it.
If any of those are missing, we ask. We do not guess.
What we size
A quote is not a guess. It is a shape estimate built from five axes:
- Surface area. Count screens, flows, API endpoints, integrations.
- Data model. How many entities, how connected, what invariants matter.
- State complexity. Real-time, concurrency, offline, long-running jobs.
- Compliance and security. PDPA, PCI, HIPAA-style, SOC 2 — each one buys weeks.
- Uncertainty. Anything we do not know yet becomes a contingency line.
Each axis maps to engineering weeks. Weeks map to cost. The cost is the answer.
What we do not do
- We do not pad the estimate "just in case." Contingency is a separate, labeled line.
- We do not bill for discovery meetings that our team needs to learn your domain.
- We do not give a flat-fee quote for something we have not scoped.
What you get in 24 hours
- A scoped breakdown with engineering weeks per feature group.
- A total cost with a clear contingency band.
- A team plan: who, what seniority, for how long.
- A "what we would cut first" list if you need to fit a tighter budget.
If the number is wrong for you, tell us. We can cut scope, stretch timeline, or walk away — all three are fine answers. What we will not do is hide the math.
Why this matters
Fast, honest estimates save both sides. You get to make a real decision in a week instead of a month. We do not waste senior engineering time chasing work we cannot actually build.
If you are scoping something now, send us the brief. We will reply with an actual number.
